CLEVELAND HEIGHTS/UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS COUNCIL OF PTAS

Cleveland Heights/University Heights Council of PTAs will implement a Healthy Lifestyles program in their schools that consists of three elements. The first is a school wide "Healthy Lifestyles Wellness Challenge" that will give families tips and strategies to stay healthy as a family. The second is a "Walk the Block" program, where families will join together for a 15 mile walking challenge each month. Children and parents will use score cards to help them track their progress month by month. The third is the "Art of Healthy Cooking" program that will emphasize healthy eating behaviors. 2011 OHIO PTA SCHOOL NURSE AWARD

Barrie Timmins was honored as the Ohio PTA 2011 School Nurse recipient on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Brunch Award Luncheon of Ohio PTA Convention..

Barrie is a school nurse at Stiles Elementary in South-Western City Schools. She goes above and beyond just being a school nurse. She is a friend, counselor, mother and advocate for the children.

She arranges for affordable eyewear for needy students, provides clothes and shoes for kids, works with the PTA to provide information for the clothing room, organizes with the staff to collect for and adopt a needy family at Christmas time.

A local unit may nominate a school nurse by writing a 100-word essay.  They may have staff, teachers or even students think of their school nurse as he/she defines the words: School Nurse.  The application deadline is February 1.
